What are some ways to make a gift? Because LAP Foundation of North Carolina is a 501(c)(3) public charity, there are few ways which you may make gifts today other than donating online through our web portal or by check:

  • Gift of Appreciated Stock*

If you itemize deductions on your tax return instead of using the standard deduction, making a gift through a transfer of appreciated stock you have owned for more than one year directly to LAP Foundation of North Carolina may increase the impact of your gift, as opposed to selling the appreciated stock, paying capital gains tax and contributing the balance.  If you are interested in making such a gift, please call or email us for transfer instructions.

  • Grant from Your Donor Advised Fund*

If you have a donor advised fund, consider recommending a grant from your fund to LAP Foundation of North Carolina.

  • Charitable Rollover of your IRA*

If you are over 70 ½ years of age, you can make a qualified charitable distribution to LAP Foundation of North Carolina.  Although you will receive no charitable deduction on your income tax return, the distribution, if made properly, may satisfy your required minimum distribution, in whole or part.

Considerations for making gifts through your estate plan:  As with giving during your lifetime, there are a number of ways which you can leave a gift to LAP Foundation of North Carolina through your estate plan.

  • Outright Bequest (Gift)

Your will or revocable trust can provide for an outright bequest to LAP Foundation of North Carolina. For example, your trust or will could provide:

    a. Specific Dollar Amount: I give the sum of $____________ to LAP Foundation of NC, Inc. (Taxpayer ID No. 56-2142549).

    b. Percentage of Estate/Trust: I give ___% of my residuary estate to LAP Foundation of NC, Inc. (Taxpayer ID No. 56-2142549).  [In the case of a trust:  I give ___% of the remaining trust property to LAP Foundation of NC, Inc. (Taxpayer ID No. 56-2142549).]

  • Designation of Retirement Benefits (e.g., 401k, IRAs)

You should consult with a qualified tax professional for these types of designations, but because LAP Foundation of NC, Inc is a 501(c)(3), it will not be required to pay income tax on 401k and IRA death benefits. You can name LAP Foundation of NC, Inc as a primary or contingent beneficiary of your 401k, IRA or similar retirement account.  Request a new beneficiary designation from your plan administrator or IRA custodian and use the LAP Foundation of NC, Inc. name, address and taxpayer ID number from above.

  • Life Insurance
